RENAL TRACT ULTRASOUND

Renal Tract Ultrasound example image

A renal tract ultrasound is a safe and painless test that uses sound waves to create images of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. It is often used to investigate conditions such as kidney stones, pain, hematuria, poor kidney function, trauma, urinary tract infections (UTIs), incontinence, and changes in bladder function. This test provides valuable insights into your renal health.

Renal ultrasound tests can also show the following:

– The size of the kidneys

– Signs of injury to the kidney

– Abnormalities present since birth

– The presence of blockages or kidney stones

– Complications of a urinary tract infection (UTI)

– Cysts or tumors

This procedure requires you to have a full bladder. You are advised to drink one litre of water finishing one hour before your appointment and try not to empty your bladder.
